Initially, we found and contracted Harts to re-record the theme song for the T20 Cricket World Cups. Then they asked him to perform the song at the Opening Ceremony for a global audience. Check it out.

Bruce:
Okay, this is number four in our video blog on the T20 Cricket, a little music licensing mini-series, mini case study. If you missed the first three, then I’m sure you can find them on YouTube, just search for me, Bruce Tweedie.
It was a pretty complex music licensing deal, the T20, because part of it was to have Harts perform at the opening ceremony. Some ways that proved to be more complicated than all the sync licensing and the re-recording. There are a series of concerts that he was supposed to do and negotiations went on for a long time, but they got it over the line in the end, a lot of work with the Michael Cassel Group who were the designers of the opening ceremony.
Clare:
And we were lucky enough to get tickets to the event and Harts was certainly the highlight of the opening ceremony, in my opinion.
Bruce:
Lots of singing and dancing.
Clare:
Yes, there was.
Bruce:
The cricket was good too, but Australia lost to India, although they did beat India in the final eventually.
Growing up in South Africa, did you ever go to the cricket?
Clare:
On a couple of occasions. I think it’s probably only two, as in couple.
Bruce:
But you knew what Cricket was, you knew the rules basically.
Clare:
Oh yes. My dad was a mad Cricket fan, so…
Bruce:
Mine too.
Clare:
Was on TV throughout the summer, so.
Bruce:
Yeah, in the summer heat watching the cricket. But you know, looking back on it now, it seems surreal and all a bit sad. The opening ceremony I think was on the 21st of February, and the World Cup Women’s Final was on the 8th of March, so they just sneaked it all in, it was fabulous. And we didn’t know that that would be the last big event that we went to this year, maybe forever. And they had a music license for the rest of the Men’s World Cup, which has been postponed for two years and we don’t know what’s going to happen there. Anyway, I’m really pleased they managed to get the women’s done and Harts got to perform, it was great.
And stick around because we’re about to have a look at the opening ceremony. Just hang on.
See you later.
Clare:
If you like it… What?
Bruce:
Share it.
Clare:
Share it, if you like. I couldn’t remember.
Bruce:
That’ll do it.
