And now for something completely different. In between finding songs and clearing copyrights we managed to find time to take on a puppy. Not sure yet if that was a good idea.

You’ll find the full transcript below:

Bruce:

Yes, we got a puppy. How cute is he?

So this is an unusual vlog. Normally we’re talking about work. We thought we’d mix it up a bit. Life on the border of music supervision and advertising in Australia. Here’s our new puppy.

Clare:

Cute puppy.

Bruce:

Say hello. Say hello to all the hundreds of thousands of people out there watching. What’s it like having a puppy and running a business?

Clare:

Very challenging.

Bruce:

Why?

Clare:

Because it’s a new baby, and it requires just as much attention as a new baby.

Bruce:

Probably more. Because a new baby doesn’t pee all over the floor. Or poo in the corner. But it’s pretty full on. It’s like you have to look after him all day long.

Clare:

Yeah. And he loves company, this one.

Bruce:

It really is a challenge balancing our music licensing business with the puppy. In our favour, though, we work from home and we’re husband and wife and partners, so we share all the responsibilities, which helps. Still, I’m not sure I’d recommend it. It’s a lot of work. Anyway, let’s have a look at life with Spike. Here he is with a new chicken friend.

There he is, the dog and the boy on crutches.

Clare:

The tiny terror. Not so tiny.

Bruce:

Not so tiny anymore.

Clare:

And what kind of dog is he?

Bruce:

Well, we bought him as a Rottweiler cross with a Husky. We’ve both had Rottweilers before in our past lives, so we know what we’re getting into there. And the Husky sounded interesting. But now we’re wondering whether the Husky was real or not, because he actually looks a lot like a… He’s definitely a Rottweiler, he’s got the markings, but he looks a lot like a Rottweiler Kelpie cross, which means he just wants exercise all day long. We didn’t get into this just because we had a light bulb moment with COVID, with lockdown, and thought, “Oh, let’s get a dog.” Not at all. We’d been talking about it for months beforehand, and we’d kind of made the decision. But it has been a bit more convenient, because normally we’re travelling, going to visit advertising agency clients. We can’t do any of that. So it is a good time to be home with a dog, training the dog. Say goodbye to all the people out there. Goodbye. See you next time as I’m growing up.

Clare:

See you later.

Bruce:

See you later.

Clare:

If you like it.

Bruce:

See you later.
